smart move

meet: bronwyn, a third year health sciences student and thrifting aficionado.

her personal style: "I like mixing a bunch of different things into something kind of elegant: basics and vintage, simple and ornate, smooth and textured, plain and patterned. And vintage shoes... a must!"

prêt-à-porter, part 3

so the bhsc charity fashion has finally come and gone. it was a spectacular success, and i wanted to share a few of my favourite moments with you...

models off-duty. seeing your guy friends in make-up never stops being funny.

some of the highlight acts included jordan, a camper from camp trillium, dance acts, and a musical sketch by the three amigos.

a handful of the student designers' creations. i was blown away by the talent.

guests of the show included the star of my first ever blog post lauren (with her i-D cupcake) and past co-chairs and exec members of the show.

the show was an incredible success, and i want to congratulate my good friends hannah and cassie, who pulled together an amazing evening. hope to see everyone out again next year!

p.s. i'll be resuming regular student outfit posts later this week. can't wait... i've missed it!

prêt-à-porter, part 1

remember gabe (previously seen here)? back when he was first featured, i mentioned that he was involved with the bachelor of health sciences charity fashion show... and that exciting event has finally arrived! this 6th annual occurrence of the show is themed around iconic works of art and their influence on style. the affair is taking place this sunday at cibc hall in musc. tickets are $15 and all proceeds go to camp trillium, a childhood cancer support center.

these are some shots from model fittings earlier this week, as well as some of the famous works that have inspired the production...

birds of a feather

remember elle (previously seen here)? well, she just so happens to be an intern at a local vintage and consignment store, peacock chic boutique, and she mentioned that i should stop by sometime. having finally gotten the majority of my heavy school assignments out of the way, i swung by today and met the two lovely co-owners (and sisters), marija and afrodita durlov. they were gracious enough to let me take pictures of the store (and even some merchandise) to share with you...

a gorgeous two-piece ensemble from the sixties. i literally saw it and said, "that's grace kelly."

one of my favourites... a long-sleeved wool and fringe mini dress.

a mustard yellow cocktail dress. i have decided i need this.

a collection of cameo pins.

elle in a riding cape and attaché case.

a swirly floor-length butterfly skirt.

before leaving, i got a chance to talk to the durlov sisters about their philosophy on vintage clothing... "we aim to give people unique clothing options at any budget. we carry items from $2 to $300. we believe in recycling, in a new take on vintage... mixing vintage with modern. really, you don't want to look like you stepped out of a time machine and you don't want to be a spokesperson for any one look. we really believe in personal style over complete style."

owners afrodita and marija, with elle (center).

although i didn't have much time for shopping today, there are definitely a couple pieces i can't wait to go back and claim. everyone was so nice, and the shop was impeccable and très mignon. my experience today was wonderful... thanks so much marija and afrodita!

tonight was the annual msu student recognition dinner, a soirée of some pretty high-profile people on campus. meet: ryan, former msu president (2007-2008) and current mac mba student, looking dapper in his navy suit.

the cold war

meet: elle, ironically, a history student who wears two watches. as the semester wears on, the coffeeshops are beginning to fill with students buckling down and warming up. this gal's staying cozy in knitwear, while still looking classic and cool.

her personal style: "a mix of old and new... i'm always mixing! in the summer, i gravitate towards more nautical-inspired pieces and in the winter i love equestrian-inspired looks. my style icons are jackie kennedy, faye dunaway and lauren bacall."
